Neil Peart, the virtuoso percussionist and chief lyricist of Canadian progressive rock band Rush, was often called one of the greatest of drummers of all time, but despite the group's legions of superfans the musician led an intensely private life in an endless quest for deeper knowledge.
Peart, 67, died Tuesday in Santa Monica, Calif., after battling glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, according to a statement provided by Elliot Mintz, a family spokesman.
